Wrinkles, volume loss, uneven tone, redness, and changes in skin texture do not all develop for the same reason. At Manhattan Dermatology in New York, NY, our board-certified dermatologists evaluate the underlying concern before recommending a cosmetic procedure. That medical perspective helps us account for your skin health, facial anatomy, movement, and aesthetic preferences.
Michelle Levy, MD is board certified in both the United States and Canada and has experience in medical and aesthetic dermatology. She also serves as a Clinical Instructor in NYU’s Department of Dermatology.
What Can Cosmetic Dermatology Address?
Facial aging happens in several ways. Repeated muscle movement contributes to expression lines. Volume can diminish or shift over time, changing facial contours. Sun exposure, visible blood vessels, acne scars, and pigment changes affect the skin itself.
Knowing which of these changes is responsible helps us narrow down the procedures most relevant to your concern.
Cosmetic Dermatology Treatments
Wrinkles and Expression Lines
Botox® and other neuromodulators temporarily reduce activity in selected facial muscles. They are commonly used for concerns such as forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet.
Volume Loss and Facial Contours
Dermal fillers can replace lost volume, soften folds, or refine areas such as the lips, cheeks, chin, and jawline.
Biostimulators such as Sculptra® and Radiesse® work differently by encouraging collagen development over time. Kybella® may be considered for select patients with fullness beneath the chin.
Tone, Texture, Redness, and Sun Damage
Laser treatments may improve discoloration, redness, visible vessels, acne scars, fine lines, or uneven texture. Chemical peels exfoliate the skin at different depths to address selected pigment and texture concerns.
For broken capillaries, telangiectasia, or persistent redness, vascular treatments such as Excel V® may also be considered.
What Happens During a Cosmetic Consultation?
Your dermatologist looks at the specific change bothering you rather than starting with a procedure. We assess skin quality, facial movement, volume distribution, pigmentation, redness, medical history, and previous cosmetic treatments.
One procedure may address your main concern, or different treatments may be used at separate times when movement, volume, and skin quality all play a role. The goal is to choose treatments that make sense for your anatomy rather than simply following a trend.
Why Choose Manhattan Dermatology for Cosmetic Dermatology in New York?
Cosmetic procedures require detailed knowledge of skin biology and facial anatomy. Dr. Levy’s background includes both medical and aesthetic dermatology as well as academic teaching at NYU. Wendy Long Mitchell, MD, FAAD, FACMS completed fellowship training that included cosmetic laser surgery in addition to her surgical dermatology training.
Because our physicians practice medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology, we can also recognize when redness, acne, pigmentation, or another condition should be medically evaluated before a cosmetic procedure is considered.
